The Home Office Scandal
In 2012 the Hostile Environment policy destroyed the lives of thousands of members of the
Windrush generation. The injustice is unresolved and the effects are still being felt today.

How The Movement Began
My name is Colin McFarlane, I am an actor best known for playing the Commissioner in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. My father Sidney McFarlane MBE of the Windrush generation is an ex-RAF Officer, who served for 30 years and in April 2023 he was asked by the Daily Mirror for his thoughts on the Windrush Compensation scheme being wound down and avoiding further payment to its 1500 victims and rising. He said: ‘It’s as if they are deliberately planning on people dying to pay out less money.’
I posted the article on social media. It got a huge response of support and agreement and one of those replies came from Annie Lennox, who I originally met in Glasgow in 2019 after a Global Feminism conference she was speaking at while I was there filming the US series ‘Outlander’. She later contacted me via my acting agent and formally asked how she could help to get justice and healing for the Windrush generation. I told her I would like to use her song ‘Why’ for a film campaign to raise awareness that this scandal is far from over, using her Global Feminism video from 2019 for my inspiration. She agreed. She has now recorded a haunting version to be used exclusively for this campaign.
